Chrättli

The neighbourhood store Chrättli on the Allmend in Baden offers a great range of regional and sustainably produced products in a small space, all direct from the farm. The food is freshly produced by a regional network of farmers. They plant, cultivate and harvest vegetables, berries and fruits for the Chrättli. Small manufacturers supply bread, flour and yoghurts, which are processed by hand. There is always something special to discover, such as the city honey from the neighbourhood or the freshly ground grain.

Ohne.ch

It is not easy to make sustainable decisions, especially when it comes to packaging. Ohne.ch offers a clever alternative: shopping without packaging! Bring your own storage jars, bottles and bags with you and choose from around 300 different foods to refill them with. In addition, choose from more than 200 plastic-free alternatives for bathroom, kitchen and everyday life. This form of bulk shopping has several advantages: not only is packaging avoided, but since you'll only end up filling up and buying as much as you actually need, food waste is also reduced. Ohne.ch also offers a platform to exchange ideas about sustainability at various events. Lectures, discussions and workshops on current topics are held regularly; music and film are presented in an equally sustainable manner in the "ohne Strom" concert series and in the solar powered "Solarkino" cinema.

Saturday market

The freshest food from the region can be bought every Saturday at the weekly market in the Weite Gasse (and in summer also every Tuesday on the Schlossbergplatz). Fruit, vegetables, cheese, bread, flowers and much more – all from (organic) farms all over the canton of Aargau! The farmers themselves serve customers at the stalls and in addition to offering a great deal of fresh produce, they are happy to give you tips on how to prepare the delicacies you have bought.

Alnatura Baden

Organic as far as the eye can see. At the Alnatura Bio Super Markt Baden you will find over 5,000 organic products to discover, including many vegetarian and vegan foods as well as products for special dietary needs. Swiss producers as well as regional and seasonal products are particularly important for the fresh produce on offer. For example, the daily fresh fruit and vegetables from Bioland Müller in Steinmaur, the crispy bread from Fredys or the tofu from Tofurei Engel, which is fresh, fair and handmade.

Glück-Hof Baldegg

At the Glück-Hof on Baldegg regenerative agriculture is practised according to the permaculture philosophy. Regional agriculture that focuses on respectful interaction with nature provides answers to many of the current problems such as global warming, loss of biodiversity, global poverty, hunger and drinking water shortages. Together with people from the Baden region, for whom healthy and sustainably produced food in an ecological farming system is important, action is being taken. Currently, a solidarity-based agriculture (Solawi) is being set up in the form of a cooperative.

Changemaker

Mass-produced products from large corporations and labels are not welcome at Changemaker at Badstrasse 34. However, what you will find – and we're all the better for it – are exciting things from small or medium-sized manufacturers that produce or process in manageable quantities. Each product tells a beautiful story that tells of the love for the product, the production method, people and nature. You will find articles for everyday use and as gifts, tested and approved by Changemaker and their seven sustainability criteria points.

VomFass Baden

The vomFass at Bahnhofstr. 6 (opposite Manor) stands for sustainable production and high quality. The choice of the growing areas, the inclusion of natural processes as well as gentle harvesting and finishing are the most important criteria for the high-quality natural products. Discover fine olive oils, nut and seed oils as well as Balsamicos and balsamic vinegars for refilling - this saves on packaging (you can also bring the bottles yourself) and money, because you only pay for what you need at the time. Ideal for a gift for friends, family or company! Give or enjoy sustainably thanks to eco-friendly reusable bottles and plastic-free packaging.

Marta Lädeli & Bistro

The Marta Lädeli & Bistro in Turgi is a place for sustainable shopping and enjoyment. They offer mainly organic or Demeter products, ranging from food to hygiene items. The bistro serves homemade dishes like flammkuchen, avocado toast, and daily changing menus made from surplus vegetables to avoid food waste. Guests can also enjoy coffee, cakes, and other snacks. Marta welcomes everyone – from families and hikers to dogs.

Halde 8

Rosmarie Lang has been running her business at Untere Halde 8 for 24 years. As a true pioneer in this field, she created the first shop in Baden with an assortment focusing solely on fair trade products. On the shelves, you will find practical everyday objects, fairly produced clothes, fun board and card games and a small but lovely selection of organic food. The selection includes, among others, apple juice from the Schenkenberg valley, made from apples from standard, high-trunk trees. The perfect summer thirst quencher…

Librium

Unnecessary transportation of goods of all kinds can be avoided by shopping locally. How about a walk to Theaterplatz, where the independent bookstore Librium is located? There are a large number of books and in contrast to online shopping, the personal help with finding the right book for you. Every now and then, Librium cooperates with Public Eye to organise events connected to the "local shopping" concept. In addition to books on sustainability and consumption, there are of course many other literary treasures, all of which have been tracked down by the well-read team. If the desired book cannot be found in the shop, it will be ordered for you right away.

Lili Pepper

At the Lili Pepper Concept Store at Bäderstrasse 24, you can not only buy beautiful home textiles and accessories such as cushions, plaids, kitchen towels and printed toiletries, you can also look over the shoulders of textile designer Franziska Carnevale as she works on her own Lili Pepper brand - the designs are drawn and printed by hand. If you have time to spare, you are also welcome to ask questions about the manufacturing process of textile products, as Franziska and Damian Carnevale, the couple behind Lili Pepper, know a lot about this. They lived with their family in India for several years and have both been in contact with the producers who manufacture sustainable products with them for many years.

Villa Paul

Shopping at Villa Paul feels a bit like Alice's trip to Wonderland. As a department store for visionaries and necessities, you will find a range of extraordinary products that have one thing in common: they are produced in a socially, ecologically and economically fair way. Contemporary clothes with a long wear guarantee, matching accessories, meaningful gift items and a large department with natural care products including a replenishment station fulfil the highest design standards. The slow.living is natural, organic and timeless. Soft, muted colours dominate the interior collection and the shop in the Oederlin area. Franziska Arnold curates her range according to the question: Is the product good for the planet and the soul? Her love of natural materials and craftsmanship are her guideline. At slow.living, sustainably produced furniture and lighting from renowned manufacturers as well as stylish home accessories and gift items from all over the world are brought together - simple, handmade one-offs full of poetry and raw beauty created by small fair trade cooperatives and artisans.

Second Hand

Duchesse

Sarah Studer is a trained haute-couture tailor and knows how much work goes into a well made garment. She also knows about the appalling exploitation of those who put this work into making traditional clothing. This unequal relationship, inspired her to found her second-hand boutique; Duchesse. In the boutique at Untere Halde 13, you will find unique items of clothing that have been given to Sarah Studer by their former wearers.

Another second hand shop is located at Haselstrasse 33 (entrance from the Bruggerstrasse side) called Szenario Secondhand

Flickstatt

Every Saturday from the afternoon into the evening, people get to work at Hahnrainweg 13. Anyone and everyone can repair everyday objects in the Flickstatt either on their own or with guidance from the team. In addition to a well-equipped workshop, there is also a café with a cosy seating area by the forge - the Flickstatt creates a new meeting place for repairing, working and socialising.
