Agnes (*1281) – daughter of King Albrecht I of Habsburg – was queen of Hungary. She left Hungary after her husband's early death and entered the Königsfelden nunnery in 1317. Through acquisitions and gifts, she skilfully increased her cloister's sphere of power and influence in the 47 years before her death in 1364.By donating a hospital to the city of Baden in 1349, she wrote the first chapter in the Cantonal Hospital's history; this was the Agnesen Hospital, named after her.
The same Queen Agnes lends her name to the new hospital building project and supports visitors on the KSB Trail. In the vademecum – the accompanying booklet to the trail – we allow Her Royal Highness to speak for herself: "It's worthwhile to take a look behind the scenes, into the history and future of the Cantonal Hospital", she dictates to her scribe, not forgetting to mention that the KSB Trail is a gift from her to mark the 40th anniversary of the Cantonal Hospital.
